As we celebrate this Independence Day weekend, let us take some time to reflect on our great nation. Today we are two hundred forty-three years from July 4, 1776, the signing of the Declaration of Independence. When, according to Lincoln’s Gettysburg address “our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty: (the exemption from the arbitrary will of others, secured by established laws which restrain every man from injuring or controlling another) and dedicated to the proposition that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL”
Today, in 2019, “we are engaged in a great civil war, “of politics, sexual identity, abortion, taxation, fake news, historical revisionism, unconstitutional legislation, judicial overreach, voter fraud, border security etc. Clearly, corruption is growing due to the lack of moral law which quickly divides the nation into a battle of good versus evil.
Let’s just look at two key things that America is divided on today.
- Protecting the sanctity of life. Our Congress is fighting to protect Roe v. Wade and multiple states are signing aggressive bills legalizing abortion up until birth, which sadly is a manifestation of what is written in Psalm 106: 35-38 “they mingled with the nations and learned their practices, and served their idols, which became a snare to them. They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan”
- Protecting our borders. Our own elected officials cannot agree to protect our borders, keep our citizens safe, fight drug and human trafficking, or to improve our citizens work opportunities and the wages of skilled labor. Yet, three times in the Gospel’s of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus warned “any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and a house divided against itself falls.”
Today’s division in government leadership is similar to the Civil War and was eloquently addressed in Lincoln’s Gettysburg address, delivered on Nov 19, 1863, over one hundred fifty- six years ago “Testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure… that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
America may again embark on a new birth of freedom. But, to embrace the path of freedom will require the church body to boldly speak the truth, and for our nation to return to the simple set of unchanging moral laws and values divinely designed to protect all life and prosperity.
Due to complacency and a lack of conviction, we have allowed our media, education and entertainment industries to be overtaken by the lie from the left. We allowed our eyes to be blinded and our ears deafened, willingly straying from Biblical values which are the core of our original founding documents.
God’s people are warriors and need to engage in the fight that is so clearly before us. If we don’t first protect the sanctity of life, and then our borders, we will have no way to protect our families and homes.
Proverbs 6:16-19 defines where we are today as a nation: “There six things which the Lord hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers.”
The way through to victory for our nation is to pray and turn to the Lord for guidance. God always promises to hear and heal, as he said to Jeremiah in Jer. 33:3,6 “ Call to me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know… behold, I will bring to it health and healing and I will heal them, and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth.” God also said to Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” His word is his bond and it never fails!
